Jackson's 6-Month Check-up
Today Jackson went in for his 6-month check up. It went well except for one major thing. From 2 months to 4 months, Jackson went from being in the 75th percentile in his height and 50th in his weight to 30th percentile in both. Now, at 6 months, he isn't even on the chart. His growth has almost halted. He only gained 10 ounces since his 4 month check up. He is now 14.6 pounds and 25 inches long. Small...I know.
This makes me very sad. He eats a ton of solids, and nurses 5 times a day. He loves to eat. I told the doctor I didn't understand why he isn't growing, and he said that he may not be getting enough milk from me and/or that he is burning a lot of calories (he observed that Jackson seems to be ahead in motor skills, and is very active as well). So, my desire of nursing him with no formula in his diet is out the window. It bums me out, but I want to do what is best for Jackson. He obviously isn't getting enough protein, and I am his source of protein. The doctor said to start feeding him a little meat, too. We gave him some chicken tonight and, of course, he loved it! The doctor admitted that this was a bit early to give him meat, but under the circumstances, it wouldn't hurt to try. He needs the protein.
Other than that, Jackson is happy, healthy, and normal- praise God! I just need to give him some extra help to grow!

Awwww! I love check ups. It is always exciting. Maybe now that you are eating more on the weight whatchers you will get the proper vitamins you need and that will give your breast milk more vitamins for Jackson. Plus- you are still on prenatal pills right? Anyway, the pics of Jackson are really cute. See you Sunday- Lord willing
My Jackson didn't gain much between his 4 month and 6th month and that is very unusual for a Crandall baby but it is quite common among my friends' babies. He looks like he still has his baby fat and has a good appetite so I wouldn't worry about him too much. This is a time where they start to level off because they are more active and growth slows a bit anyways. Of course I am not a doctor but sometimes doctors can be too "by the book/numbers". You are a great mom and have done a great job feeding him.
Kimm...yes...we are going!
Thanks for the encouragement. Jackson actually has only gained a pound and an half since two months, which is abnormal, especially because he gained almost 5 pounds in the first two months of his life. It is a matter of concern because his pattern of growth has drastically changed. Can't wait to see you guys!
Crystal, I hope that me eating more helps Jackson eat more. I can already tell I am getting more milk, but Jackson is getting less and less interested in nursing. He gets SOOO DISTRACTED, no matter what I do! I am taking prenantals, so he's getting all the good stuff! See you Sunday!
