Today Madelyn is three and a half. This evening, Troy asked her if she could bake some cookies for us. She replied sweetly and quietly, "No 'cause I'm just a little girl." Troy then asked her if she was going to bake cookies for us when she was a big girl. I watched her blonde ringlets bounce up and and down and her big blue eyes grow even wider as she exclaimed, "Yes! Mommy I'm going to be a big girl, just like you!" My heart melted, of course! She grows sweeter everyday. Here are a few more things I want to remember about Madelyn, at age 3 1/2...
~She loves music. She can actually play her "carmonica" pretty well!
~ She sings everyday. Most of the time it is "Joy to the World" that she is singing or humming. What better song, though, to sing of Christ's coming!
~She still carries around her blankie.
~Madelyn loves her brothers so much and has a kind and caring heart towards them most of the time. She is motherly to Owen at times---and not in a bossy way, but in a sweet, nurturing way.
~She loves her cousins and friends and asks to include them in our prayers.
~Madelyn loves to dress herself. She loves to mix and match skirts and leggings. She doesn't like jeans and would wear a dress everyday if she could. She has a spunky sense of style!
~Her favorite colors are pink and purple. No surprise there!
~Her favorite toys are her pink trike and her toy kitchen and food.
~She loves her kitties, animals and any living thing. She shows concern and care for even worms or ants. I found her in the kitchen yesterday giving a stray ant a pep talk about finding his home.
~She is the girliest of girls, from loving painted nails to hair pretties to anything that sparkles, but she is very down to earth and will get dirty if she needs to. She loves helping in the garden.
Madelyn, at age three and a half is blossoming in all kinds of ways, and I love to watch her grow. I just hope she doesn't become a big girl too fast!

Owen Speaks
Last week, Owen approached the fine young age of 19 months. He has been talking for a while, saying sentences here and there. I will say now that it is official: Owen is talking. I can no longer keep up with all the new verbiage he is saying that we understand. His discovery of his communication skills is priceless! Yesterday while I was putting Madelyn down for her nap, I heard Owen in the kitchen saying, "Table! Table!" Then I heard his little feet shuffle into the hallway and soon he was by my side, pointing to the kitchen and saying, "Table!" I followed him to the kitchen to find our kitty, Olive, on the table as he excitedly exclaimed, "Kitty (almost inaudible "on") table!!!" I then said to Owen, "Oh! The kitty is on the table!" He grinned, nodded, did a little dance with his feet and clapped his hands at the discovery that I had understood what he was communicating. It melted my heart!

Troy turns 40!
A week before Madelyn turned 3, Troy turned 40. He had a hard time deciding what he wanted to do to celebrate the beginning of his 4th decade. So, two weeks before the big day, he decided on a party! (Yea for Pinterest!) We had close friends and family come to celebrate with Troy, which was hard. If he could, Troy would have invited a lot more! Nevertheless, he had a blast! Here are some highlights of his party and his birthday!
The chalkboard has been one of my best purchase out of the Target dollar section.
One request of his was bottled coke...you know...the Mexican ones with the real sugar!
A movie themed seemed to be fitting for Troy, so behold the "backyard film theme!"
Striped bunting and hanging mason jars.
Troy's mom was kind and rented a popcorn machine for the party. We were so glad she did! It was such a fun thing to have!
Homemade yellow cake with chocolate frosting.
Semi-homemade red velvet cupcakes. (I made the frosting and added some "special" ingredients to the mix!) I made all the toppers in Adobe Illustrator.
CAKE!
Getting ready for the showing of Pee Wee's Big Adventure!
My 40-year-old hubby doesn't look 40, does he?
About to blow out his candles!
Us. With Cake.
One of my favorite scenes...
Silly boys.
Good friends. Just missing Scott!
I gave Troy a year of dates for his birthday! Looking forward to going on them!
In N' Out!
We ended Troy's bday weekend with a trip to the park. The kiddos enjoyed it...
...and so did Troy!

Madelyn is 3!
Madelyn turned three-years-old yesterday. I can hardly believe it myself. It seems like just yesterday I was holding her in my arms for the first time. Life is truly a vapor! In the last few weeks, a spark came on and Madelyn has turned into a very girly little girl. She no longer gets excited about the Cars movies anymore, although she still loves wearing her Cars shirt. Cinderella is her favorite movie. She has no idea that any other Disney Princesses exist, but that is fine with me! She loves dress up and pretty barrettes to put in her hair. She loves pink and purple and wants me to like those colors too. She often asks, "Mommy do you like pink?" When I say, "Yes," she smiles and says, "I like pink, too, Mommy!" She also is fond of ballerinas and, of course, Hello Kitty. Here are some more fun facts about Madelyn at three years of age:
~Madelyn loves Dino Chicken Nuggets from Costco. She would eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if she could.
~She is less social than her brothers, but will pick a few friends and really enjoy them.
~She would rather not have a lot of attention on her. When we all sang "Happy Birthday" to her, sadly, she cried. It was too much for her. I suppose I need to be more mindful of that.
~Madelyn loves going to Sunday School and pronounces it "Skunday School."
~She still sleeps with her "blankie" every time she naps and every night. I'm surprised it doesn't have holes!
~Madelyn enjoys wearing my shoes around the house. I can never find them because of this. I think it is precious, though!
~Madelyn still loves her kitties and animals in general. She is fond of butterflies and birds as well.
~She is fully potty-trained, although she prefers me to take her potty still. She is incredibly good at "holding it." Too good!

An early birthday treat with her Aunt Jenni before she moved up to Washington.
Madelyn's hair is still very curly. It has gotten long, but I haven't had the guts to cut it yet!
Madelyn truly enjoys time with her siblings, but thrives when she gets time alone too.
She is quite a spunky girl! She loves sunglasses, but always wears them upside down!
Madelyn in her- er - I mean my favorite wedges!
Madelyn had to say good-bye to her favorite kitty this month. She gave her a nice brushing before she went to her new family. She misses her, but it was the best for all of us!
Madelyn just started to eat cheeseburgers. Meat, aside from Dino chicken nuggets, has not been her favorite thing.
My big three-year-old!!!
Owen: 12-15 months
It is a little ridiculous that I haven't updated this blog in so long. That is just an illustration on how busy little Owen keeps me! He turned the big O-N-E on May 13th. A while ago. He seems to have grown so much since then! He had a "Muppets" themed party because he loves that movie. I will do another post about his party (I promise!).
At his one-year check-up, his Iron levels had gone up to almost normal. Yea! We worked so hard at giving him iron-rich food for a while and it slowly went up naturally, without having to fortify his diet with liquid iron.
Shortly after his one-year birthday, Owen took his first trip on a plane. He did pretty good considering it was a 5-hour flight with several stops along the way! He didn't cry at all on the way there and on the way back, only a few times, and it wasn't too bad!
One of Owen's first words was "Kitty" and that still is one of his favorite words. He loves to spend time with our kitties, although we recently had to give one away (pictured). He also loves to say "doggy" and "daddy" very clearly. He is now imitating his brother and sister as well. Jackson thinks its funny to get Owen to say "hot dog" in a really deep, raspy voice. Owen finds it amusing, too! He is also saying "sentences," although we can't understand most of what he is saying. As for calling me "mommy," he doesn't yet. :( He loves to say, "Daddy!" though!
Owen got a water table for his first birthday and he loves to play with it! It's the next best thing to Disneyland!
One of Owen's favorite things to do is wrestle with his daddy and Jackson. They get so into, giggling and grunting as they roll on the floor. I love that they can experience this with their daddy. What a precious memory!
Owen took his first trip to the pool back in June. He really enjoyed the water. He loves splashing and floating in his little baby chair.
Hats are entertaining to Owen right now. He won't keep them one, but he thinks its funny to wear them!
I think this photo illustrates Owen's sweetness. He has such a sweet personality. He seems to love to light up everyone's day!
He also loves his siblings! He and Madelyn have a sweet relationship for the most part, except for when he thinks its funny to pull her hair or she pushes him because he is getting into her stuff. That is a brother-sister relationship for you! He and Jackson have a great relationship as well. They are always making each other laugh!
Books are a regular part of Owen's life. I have baskets and shelves full of them and he loves to sit and "read." I treasure his enjoyment of them, even if he reads them upside-down.
The park swings are definitely a favorite for Owen. He loves to climb all over the playground as well. He is too, brave, though, I have have to be a step behind him!
Owen quite possibly is the messiest eater I have ever come across. He seems to think that what he is eating passes as hair gel. That's right. He puts what he is eating in his hair at nearly every meal! It's a good thing I have washcloths near by. Although, sometimes that is pointless and I just have to put him in the tub.
This little boy gets a thrill out of animals. He loved going to the OC fair this summer and looking at all the farm animals!
Owen went into the water at the beach for this first time and he couldn't get enough of it! He kept running in! He is a bit too brave, so Troy had to hold onto him because otherwise who knows where he would have tried to run!
Owen at 15 months. He is a little ham. He loves to smile at people and he will do so just to get a reaction from them. He has proven to be very social. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? :)
This is the same bear he started sleeping with at 4 months old. He finally has shown attachment to it all of a sudden and snuggles with it when he is awake as well. I love to see him show love for a stuffed animal! So cute!
These are the most recent photos of Owen. He is always smiling. Over the summer, he got "Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease" pretty bad and was somewhat miserable, but through it all, he tried to be happy and smile. In the photo below, he is breaking through his first molar. The only reason I knew is that he opened his mouth wide and I saw it. He was still his happy self!
Owen is still a pretty small baby, but he has seemed to grow a bit since his 12-month check-up. His one-piece outfits in 9 months are finally too small and some of his 12-month one-piece outfits are getting a little snug. He still hardly fits into 12 month shorts/pants. They have to be rolled up because he isn't big enough around the waist. Oh-well! I guess he gets to wear clothes longer than expected!
Some more facts about Owen at 15 months:
~He loves brushing his 6 teeth.
~He loves to run, especially when being chased.
~He climbs onto EVERYTHING, no matter how high or dangerous. He favorite climbing spots are the kitchen tabletop and the top of the TV cabinet.
~He seems to love to watch Curious George, just like his brother and sister.
~He loves to chew on Legos, although if I catch him and ask them to spit them out, he obeys.
~He loves his daddy so very much! He runs to him when he gets home from work, fusses when it leaves, and cuddles with him every chance he gets. Troy eats it up! So do I, as this isn't the norm for all babies his age! He even sings songs about him in a sweet voice... "Daaaddeeeee....Daddy! Daaaaadeeee!" :)
~He makes the "vroom" sound when playing with cars. I guess he got that from Jackson!
~His favorite foods are: strawberries, grapes, carrots, mangoes, pretty much any fruit, chicken nuggets, waffles, Trader Joe's Oat bran Muffins, frozen yogurt sticks, and anything with ketchup!
~He still takes two naps. An hour and a half nap in the morning, and the same in the afternoon.
~He has really blonde hair. It got lighter and longer over the summer. It may be time for his first haircut soon! He also has a little bit of curl in the back.
Hope you all enjoyed the update! I will write soon about Madelyn's 3rd birthday and both Madelyn and Owen's parties. Sorry it took so long!!!
